Many pupils get bogged down in learning, i.e. they start preparing too late and get into a time crunch before the exam. Here, you can practise realistically calculating the time needed even with primary school children. Have the child estimate how much time he or she will need for a certain task and write it down in a table. Older learners already do this step themselves.
Then time the actual time needed and write it down next to it. The point here is not to speed yourself or the child up, but to develop a realistic idea of the time needed. Everyone likes to be right, even if it’s just a matter of correctly estimating the pace of work. With time, the pupil will strive to calculate his or her own pace correctly and develop an appropriate sense of it. This makes planning easier and prevents some dawdling.
