Learn from inner motivation
Learn a language out of curiosity, personal interest or emotional connection – this increases perseverance and learning success.
Set yourself realistic but challenging goals
For example, 30-day challenges to learn basic vocabulary and simple conversations quickly.
Daily routine is crucial
20-45 minutes a day is enough as long as you learn regularly and actively. Consciously plan break days so that you don’t get overwhelmed.
Learn in a topic-oriented and relevant way
Focus on topics that affect you personally (e.g. hobbies, job, travel) and on around 200 common words + 30 important verbs.
Use every opportunity in everyday life
Listen to podcasts while cooking, learn vocabulary on the train or watch series in the foreign language – passive learning ideally complements active learning.
Train all four language skills
Listening, speaking, reading and writing should be practiced evenly so that the language is learned holistically.
Speak right from the start – even with mistakes!
Take every opportunity to speak (e.g. on vacation, in a language cafĂ© or with a tandem partner) – mistakes are part of the learning process.
Create a linguistic environment
Surround yourself with the language: through travel, contacts, online communities or even by moving to a multilingual environment.
Integrate language into your hobbies
Do yoga in Spanish, read sports articles in French or play video games in German – this makes learning fun and sustainable.
Learning is a part of life – no extra effort
Don’t see language as a “duty”, but as an enrichment of your everyday life, your communication and your freedom.
